Marine Plastics Infographic Inspires Marine Reserve
Our Plastics in the Marine Environment infographic showing the sources and destinations of marine plastics has provided the inspiration for a 14 square metre information panel at the Miramare Marine Reserve in Trieste, Italy.
The panel has been installed at the reserve’s WWF-managed visitor centre to educate visitors on the fate of plastics at sea. It is based on our marine plastics infographic and accompanying research report Plastics in the Marine Environment, alongside work by Norwegian environmental communications centre GRID-Arendal. It was created by graphic and information designers Bianco Tangerine.
The Miramare Marine Reserve was created in 1975, making it the first marine park in Italy. Located in the Gulf of Trieste of the Adriatic Sea, it covers an area of 120 hectares and provides a habitat for marine life such as the peacock blenny, seahorses, sea turtles and cetaceans. The information panel forms part of a renovated visitor’s centre, which was officially opened on the 5th March 2018.
