Net Zero and Decarbonisation Services

Do you need help understanding your footprint and developing and implementing a net-zero decarbonisation strategy?

Countries and organisations around the world are setting ambitious targets to decarbonise their economies and operations over the coming decades.

Achieving the level of decarbonisation needed requires radical change from every organisation on a scale that is unprecedented in peacetime. The level of ambition and speed of decarbonisation will vary for each organisation, but many are aiming to achieve net-zero emissions in line with Science Based Targets and legal requirements.

Eunomia has a uniquely capable integrated team of experts with the experience to support you through every step of the net-zero journey. Each such journey is unique, but typically includes these steps:

  1. Commit

Achieving net-zero takes time, but you can benefit immediately from the commitment you have shown. Internationally recognised declaration standards such as Science Based Targets differentiate you from the competition by demonstrating how seriously you are taking your net-zero journey.

The requirements for making a declaration depend on your sector and the size of your organisation. Our decarbonisation specialists can work with you to ensure that the process is undertaken correctly and smoothly.

  1. Measure

A robust carbon footprint verified to ISO 14064-3 allows you to identify all emissions from your organisation, giving clear sight of net-zero risks and opportunities. This includes identification of emissions by scope:

Scope 1: direct emissions from use of fossil fuels in processes

Scope 2: indirect emissions from generation of electricity used in processes

Scope 3: emissions from supply chain, use of product and recycling

We specialise in calculating each of these emissions, with specific expertise in Scope 3 emissions.

  1. Plan

Once you have a good measure of where your greenhouse gas emissions come from, we work with you to develop a credible and robust plan to reduce them. The development of a net-zero business plan is highly specific to your organisation, but usually requires expertise in energy, process and resource efficiency, renewable energy, and supply chain management.

Our team has experience in implementing these techniques across a broad range of organisation types and business sizes.

  1. Implement

Working with organisations, we ensure that the implementation of net zero plans proceeds smoothly. Net-zero plans may include:

  • Monitoring and statistical analysis of processes and facilities;
  • Operational changes that can be implemented through training and management procedures;
  • Changes to processes, equipment, and buildings;
  • Changes to products, to minimise impacts from materials, use and end-of-life;
  • Upgrading of energy systems, on-site generation and storage;
  • Establishing green tariffs or Power Purchase Agreements; and
  • Working with suppliers to model and reduce their emissions.

Our team is experienced in delivering, or assisting with, all of these, either directly or through our robust procurement management service.

  1. Offset

It is not always possible to meet targets through the actions described above, so any remaining decarbonisation must be achieved through offsets. Carbon offsetting is often unregulated and fraught with questionable claims.

Our team has worked with some of the biggest names in offsetting for many years, and is fully conversant with what actually works, ensuring that offsets are genuinely effective.

  1. Report

Depending on the size of your organisation, you may be legally required to report your emissions, or you may simply choose to do so. More than 90% of Fortune 500 companies report to CDP and align with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards. Our ongoing service ensures that this process is delivered smoothly and correctly. We can support you and help deliver annual disclosure to online platforms, assist with the necessary data collection and perform analysis for your company’s ESG reporting.

We are also able to assess and report in greater detail, modelling not only the impact of your business on the climate, but the impact of a changing climate on your business. This risk-based modelling approach is used by many businesses as a matter of course, but is also a requirement for reporting under frameworks such as TCFD.

Developing, implementing and reporting on a net-zero business strategy is a serious, long-term undertaking that will transform the way you do business.
