Our People

Michael Kirk-Smith
Consultant Carbon Specialist
I work within the Policy and Sustainable Business teams, with a focus on calculating organisational GHG Inventories and Life-Cycle Assessments of products and systems. In my free time I can usually be found rock-climbing in the gyms or cliffs around Bristol or out getting lost on my road bike.

Michael has a degree in Environmental Policy with Economics from the London School of Economics, where he developed his interest in topics such as Sustainable Development and Environmental Economics. Before joining Eunomia, Michael worked for 5 years as a Sustainability Analyst in another consultancy, supporting some of the world’s largest companies on their sustainability journeys. His skills lie in being able to design and manage complex models and working closely with clients to achieve a shared understanding of the methodology, results and next steps.

Recent experience

Michael has worked on over 50 GHG Inventories for organisations over the years, in doing so he has gained a deep understanding of GHG footprinting standards and best practices, and gained valuable experience of the reporting process (including CDP, GRI and internal reporting). He has experience with Science-Based Target setting, helping multiple companies through the entire process – from calculating baseline emissions right through to validation. In addition, he has supported and managed multiple Life-Cycle Assessments of products including small electrical devices and household cleaning products.

Career history

Michael was able to develop his core analytical skills as a Intern Data Analyst at the London School of Economics Library. With these analytic skills and a background in sustainability he then joined Anthesis, a global sustainability consultancy, where he worked for 5 years in the Analytics team.
