Ann joined Eunomia in July 2007 following on from a ten week placement on an MSc course in Environmental Consultancy at the University of the West of England. Ann was formerly an IT specialist, and was used to communicating complex problems and issues to senior management, and delivering solutions to those problems. Whilst studying for her M.Sc. at UWE, Ann carried out a range of courses and wrote a paper comparing the environmental performance of composting and anaerobic digestion, along with a dissertation analysing the potential GHG savings that could be made using biomass to replace coal, oil and electric heating systems.
Since joining Eunomia, Ann has played a major role in the further development of Eunomia’s model, Atropos, which seeks to quantify the environmental impacts of a broad range of waste treatment processes. She has quickly established a reputation for her excellent knowledge of key issues relating to environmental performance of waste technologies, and has worked at Eunomia on a number projects, including a greenhouse gas assessment of the Mayor’s strategy for the management of London’s municipal waste, and a project for the Committee on Climate Change evaluating the most cost effective opportunities for carbon abatement within the UK waste sector. Other projects have included modelling the carbon footprint of several residual waste treatment processes on behalf of their respective technology suppliers, an assessment of the environmental performance of different options for the management of organic wastes on behalf of the European Commission and the feasibility study for WRAP regarding the introduction of landfill bans in the UK.
