Tim’s background is in Aeromechanical Engineering, and he held the position of test and development engineer for a number of years. He joined Eunomia in January 2008 after undertaking part of an Open University degree; his studies including cost-benefit analysis and economic approaches to environmental valuation. He is experienced in quantitative, technical problem solving, and communicating technical issues to senior management.
Whilst at Eunomia Tim has gained a large amount of experience in biowastes management planning, waste derived fuel supply, residual waste treatment, LCA, cost benefit analysis and impact assessment, the efficiency and cost of recycling collection services, and policy formation more generally. Key projects which Tim has worked on include; A Biowaste Management Study for the East of England Regional Assembly;
- A compost supply and demand study for WRAP, including an analysis of food and green waste collection systems and determination of feedstock for composting facilities from household and commercial and industrial sources. A UK waste derived fuel supply study;
- An overview of the costs and efficiencies of waste management processes for the whole of the UKs waste sector, in order to construct Marginal Abatement Cost (MAC) curves, for the determination of carbon budgets for Defra and the Committee on Climate Change;
- An Impact Assessment for DG-Environment of the European Commission of policy options for a proposed Biowastes Directive;
- An analysis of the feasibility for landfill bans across the UK for Defra and the Devolved Administrations. An assessment of the costs and benefits of policy options to mitigate problems caused by a lack of compatibility of national packaging collection systems across Europe – this study for the European Commission focused on problems related to deposit refund systems and the movement of beverages across Europe stimulated by price differentials.
Tim is a qualified ‘PRINCE2 Practitioner’ project manager and a trained workshop facilitator, and has helped setup internal project management and quality protocols within the company. He has also undertaken additional educational course whilst at Eunomia, in Mathematical Optimization Techniques and International Development.
