17/02/12 Eunomia Offers Advice on Weekly Collection Support Scheme
Details of
DCLGs £250m Weekly Collection Support Scheme
are finally available and it’s no surprise that authorities are once again being
challenged by central government to achieve something that appears close to
impossible. If you can roll-back to or retain weekly collection of residual
waste, demonstrate additionality, show how you’ll increase efficiency, improve
environmental outcomes and be innovative, then the money’s yours.
Whilst
there may be issues with the fund, it’s hard to ignore a £250m giveaway and
members, chief execs and chief finance officers are asking their waste
teams to investigate and to bring forward proposals. And the deadline for
Expressions of Interest is the 16th of March.
For many
authorities there’s simply no way they can access the fund: fortnightly refuse
and weekly food waste collections are in place and there’s no case to be made
for change. For others there are calculations to be done to understand whether
the costs of any new commitments will outweigh the benefits of any funding and
for some there may be sensible ways to access the funding which really do lead
to better environmental and financial outcomes.
Eunomia is
able to provide
cost-effective
access to our expertise in service design, collection modelling, and
environmental impact analysis.
We’ve produced a short document that explains what we can do for you, and the
knowledge and experience we can bring to bear. Whether you want help to decide
whether the Scheme could benefit your authority, or bid advice
and support,
get in touch to discuss your requirements.
